After much consideration with the organisers and invited speakers, we have decided to postpone our 1-day session on ‘Mechanical Ecology – Taking Biomechanics to the Field’ to the 2022 SEB Annual Meeting in Montpelier, France. The main reason behind this decision is that we all felt the session would benefit immensely from being in-person rather than part of an online meeting, as one of the major objectives of the session is to form new and better connections between the research communities on both sides of the Atlantic, and we all know that this is best done over a drink in the pub after the session. We also want to make use of the generous sponsorship we received from the British Ecological Society and from the New Phytologist Trust to not only bring in exciting plenary speakers, but also provide travel money for early career scientists from less affluent countries or backgrounds. As sad as we are to wait another year, we are very much looking forward to seeing you in Montpelier in July 2022!
